Abstract

This literature review provides current information on the use of expectorant therapy for acute respiratory infections in children. For writing the article, we used such databases, as Scopus, Web of Science, MedLine, PubMed, Google Scholar, CyberLeninka, Russian Science Citation Index. Attention is focused of the choice of pathogenetic therapy for cough in a child with regard to the efficiency and safety of the drug. Based on the information search, we have systematized the data on the pharmacological properties and evidence of clinical efficacy, tolerability and safety of using an effective herbal expectorant drug with reflex action, namely, Pectolvan Ivy (Pectolvan hedera helix), preparation of dried ivy leaf extract, in the treatment of acute respiratory infections in children.
